What is UKARA and Why Does It Matter?
UKARA stands for the United Kingdom Airsoft Retailers Association, an organization created to help airsoft retailers and players comply with UK law. Under the Violent Crime Reduction Act (VCRA) 2006, it is illegal to sell, manufacture, or import a Realistic Imitation Firearm (RIF) to anyone who does not have a valid defense. UKARA provides a simple and secure way to prove that defense.
Why Do You Need UKARA?
If you want to buy a realistic airsoft gun (one that looks like a real firearm), you need to show that you are an active airsoft player. Without UKARA registration, retailers can only sell you a two-tone airsoft gun—a brightly colored version that complies with the law.
How Does UKARA Work?
- Registration: You register through an insured airsoft site after attending at least three games over a minimum of two months.
- Verification: The site confirms your identity and playing history, then submits your details to the UKARA database.
- Retailer Check: When you buy a RIF, the retailer checks your UKARA number against the database to confirm you’re a legitimate player.
Benefits of UKARA Membership
- Access to Realistic Airsoft Guns: Purchase RIFs legally without restrictions.
- Community Recognition: Shows you’re an active, responsible player.
- Compliance with UK Law: Protects you and retailers from breaking the law.
